One of Indie Wire’s “Top Ten Filmmakers You Should Know”
Carrie adapts real-life stories into film and television, focusing on narratives from unique perspectives that explore how we transform our brokenness into wholeness. Carrie was drawn to YOGINI because of the main character, Sam, a unique and authentic portrayal of a teenage girl. She is a badass hard-rock metal player who finds redemption through the soft rhythms of Hinduism and yoga. She defies the typical portrayal of teenage girls, who are often depicted as scrolling through their phones, shopping, and engaging superficially. While there is some truth to that stereotype, many other authentic experiences of young women remain unexplored on screen.
